Our Story

Founded as an arts magnet school in downtown Dallas in 1975, BTW offers an intensive academic and arts education for scholar artists in dance, visual arts, theater and music. Successful graduates of the school have made an impact all over the world and in Dallas — excelling in careers in the arts as well as business, science, education, and other fields. You can find them on Broadway, in Hollywood, on New York Times’ bestseller lists, at the Grammy Awards, on worldwide music tours, dancing at the Metropolitan Opera, and showing at art galleries worldwide — well-rounded artists and creators.

BTW anchors the Dallas Arts District, the largest contiguous urban arts district in the nation, making access to multiple art museums and performing arts venues possible for students through internships, partnerships, and daily exposure.

BTW graduates report learning essential time management and life skills at the school, preparing them for success in college and professional careers. They arrive at college prepared to excel and develop their abilities to the fullest.
